Spray Foam Insulation is an insulation material that results from the mixture of two components which, when they come together at the tip of a spray gun, form an expanding foam that can be sprayed onto concrete slabs, roofs, walls, or through holes drilled in into a cavity of a finished wall. Spray foam insulation can be categorized in two different types: light-density, open-cell spray foam insulation and medium-density, closed-cell spray foam insulation. Open cell insulation can be crushed in your hand and has a lower insulation capability or “R-value”; it is usually used in indoor applications. Closed cell is rigid to the touch and each air cell is completely sealed; that causes closed cell foam to have a higher insulation capability or “R-value”, therefore it is better used in areas/surfaces that have contact or are exposed to the elements, such as exterior walls, roof, attic, etc. Nowadays, spray foam insulation products are safe for environment.
